This custom aquarium is home to what?
We recently faced the task of building a new aquarium for Bristol University, which will enable them to hold tests and experiments on ROVs.
Objective
The underwater drone tank enables safe, repeatable testing of ROVs and autonomous systems in a controlled environment, unlike open water conditions.
Build Process
This build had one requirement that could not be compromised, it needed to be absolutely bulletproof. When a tank needs to be fortified in this way, we usually go about doing so by installing aluminium profiles on the edges, effectively creating a cage, so the tank is much less susceptible to expansion due to water pressure and bowing.
When you pair the aluminium shell with 4 pieces of 17.5mm laminated glass you create an aquarium with a much more prolonged lifespan. All of our tanks come standard with exceptional pad work and aquarium silicone, this one was no different.
Even though it is a system that will be used for research, it could easily pass off as a stunning cube tank for your home. View a selection of residential aquariums in our portfolio.
